Took my first trip on the Underground! It is surprisingly clean for
public transportation. We ventured into the city to see a show that has been
running on the West End for 25 years called The Woman in Black. Callie, Tanner
and I took the train from Surbiton into Waterloo, the from Waterloo to
Picadilly Circus. We went the wrong way several times, not knowing that the
tkts booth was in Leicester Square, just around the corner. While lost though,
we found Waterloo Park and the steps that Roger chases Pongo down in the 101
Dalmatians movie. We finally found the tkts booth and got tickets for 16.50.
Amy and Liz met us in Leicester Square, then we ventured toward the Fortune
Theatre on Russell. Little did we realize, without smartphones, that there were
two different Russell Streets. Luckily we still made it to the theatre in
plenty of time. Tanner and I had balcony seats, but because they were trying to
accommodate a larger group, they moved us up to the third row on the right. The
show was incredible in technical terms and acting. It was also utterly
terrifying. I never thought live theatre could be so very scary. I left out of
my seat screaming at least four times. At the end of act 1 after the lights
came up, the curtain made a noise as it closed and a woman in the audience
screamed. Tanner and I thought the show was fantastic, so we gave them a
standing ovation at the end. We were the only ones in the audience standing, as
those are not customary, but I definitely think that the actors deserved it.
What a great first show in London and a little piece of their history.
